If you know me, it’s no secret that I love gymnastics. So naturally, I LOVE THE OLYMPICS. Ever since I can remember, the summer Olympics are the highlight of my summer. They’re my favorite time of year. I love the tradition, the competition, and the unique flair that each country brings to the ceremony and the games. Unfortunately I was at a health fair that my public health class was putting on so I missed the ceremony (and I forgot to tape it, duh), but I have been fully steeped in the games all day. Are You Kidding Me?

So I woke up this morning, as I have the past few mornings, with a twinge in my left lower back, right above my hip (or iliac crest, if you will). As the day wore on, my pain intensified and I was reduced to a lump on the floor since the angle of the recline on the couch was making things worse. All I wanted to do was finish the third Hunger Games book. Is that so much to ask? Continue reading

Big Fat Fail

On Wednesday I went for Week 5/Day 3 in my compression sleeves and quite simply, it was awful. I wasn’t having trouble with pain during my runs, just after, but with the sleeves on I had pain with every step I took. I left them on thinking it would get better but it never did. I slid them down during my cool down because I just couldn’t take it anymore. I instantly felt relief but I still don’t feel back to normal. Continue reading

So I Bought Some Leg Warmers

I did my second treadmill run this morning, after two rest days and followed by copious amounts of stretching, and still I felt the twinge of strain/soreness in my right calf. I kept stretching throughout the day, but it didn’t do any good. It’s never a shooting or stabbing pain, just an ache. But the intensity changes depending on my run. So I talked to some people about it and they all thought I needed new shoes. Well, regardless of how long you have had your shoes it’s really more about mileage than time, and I don’t have a ton of mileage on these guys despite purchasing them in October of last year. Even My Elbows Hurt

So a day after this workout from our home grown kinesiology major, I’m so sore even my elbows hurt. I can’t move. Joel says I have t-rex arms. They’re just hanging around and serving no purpose. Anyway, I digress. We did three sets of four workouts (15, 12, 10 reps; increasing the weight each time) focusing on arms this time and in between each workout we ran a lap on the track. Our track is only half of a regulation track, so our four laps was only half a mile instead of a whole mile, but I’m still hurting. I felt good during our runs. Strong. In control. I am woman hear me roar kind of stuff. But today, not so much. Continue reading

My Return to the Treadmill

This didn’t happen. But it could have.

Wow, I haven’t posted since February. I’m a pretty terrible blogger. Well, this won’t be much of anything, but I will say that I did return triumphantly to the treadmill this morning. I was getting bored with the elliptical, even with the workouts I’ve been doing, but I couldn’t stomach it anymore. So my friend Cassie, who is training for a 5k, joined me on the treadmill, and we huffed it out. Continue reading
