To Bridge or Not to Bridge?

You’ll get the relevance later.

I pulled up the Bridge to 10k training guide on the Bluefin Software Blog and it looks like this:

Each workout includes a 5 minute warmup walk and 5 minute cooldown walk

Week 1

Duration: 53 min.

Run 10 min/walk 1 min Repeat x 4.

Week 2

Duration: 57 min.

Run 15 min/walk 1 min. Repeat x 3.

Week 3

Duration: 63 min.

Run 17 min/walk 1 min. Repeat x 3.

Week 4

Duration: 66 min.

Run 18 min/walk 1 min. Repeat x 3.

Week 5

Day 1: Duration: 55 min. Run 22 min/walk 1 min. Repeat x 2.

Day 2: Duration: 61 min. Run 25 min/walk 1 min. Repeat x 2.

Day 3: Duration: 71 min. Run 30 min/walk 1 min. Repeat x 2.

Week 6

Duration: 70 min.

Run 60 min.

I can’t decide if I just want to stay in the zone that I’m in now and work on improving my 5k time or if I should move on along to the further distance training. On the one hand I like having instructions and a program, on the other, I don’t know if I want to follow another program.

I’m not going to be running any races anytime soon (there’s a possibility for a 5k over labor day weekend, but we’ll see) so this is just for me, but I would like to increase my distance and see how far I can really go. A friend suggested that I try for the Disney Princess Half Marathon in February with her and I think that would be a blast. I really can’t think of anything better than running around dressed as a princess. We’ve also discussed the songs we’re going to re-enact through the course. YESSSSSSSS.

So maybe I’ll try out the first one tomorrow morning. But it scares me to drop down from 30+ minutes to just 10. Will I lose my endurance and my stride? I’ve worked really hard to get to where I am and I am hoping that the 1 minute resting intervals won’t do me in in the long run.

[Sidenote: Do you guys watch new Dallas? I’ve had it on my DVR for ages and I’m just catching up – this shit is INTENSE. It’s like the most dramatic soap opera I’ve ever seen. Plus Tony Almeida is on it! But he’s evil, so I’m not sure how I feel about that.]

So – the plan for tomorrow is Day 1 of Bridge to 10k and upper body. LET’S GET IT. Especially since I ate like 100 muffins today.

xoxo
