WHOA. That Was Cray Cray

Thanks baby abercrombie.

Thanks baby abercrombie.

Woke up at 6:30 this AM to make sure I had a sufficient amount of coffee and breakfast in my belly before heading to my exam. It didn’t start until 8 but they wanted us there by 7:30 to fill out paperwork and register. I meant to take a picture of the joint but I was so anxious that I completely forgot. They are legit about security for these exams. You scan not only your fingerprints but your palm veins and then they check your picture every time you go in and out of a door to make sure you didn’t switch with anyone. It only takes on jackass to screw up the system for everyone…

I figured this was a good sign on my way in.

So let me tell you a little about the NCLEX if I haven’t already. It’s a computerized test that uses software to establish a minimum competency for the applicants. So if you start with a question that’s moderately hard and you answer correctly, you get a harder question. However, if you answer it incorrectly then it gives you an easier one and you build back up. You have to answer so many hard questions correctly to establish the minimum competency. The number of questions also fluctuates. You can have anywhere from 75 – 265 questions depending on how long it takes you to answer your hard questions. I knew that if I got above 100 – 150 I would probably puke. When the software determines that you’ve passed or failed then it shuts off. That’s right. When you click NEXTTHE SCREEN GOES BLANK.

So when I got to question 73 my heart started pounding. I had on the headphones they provide so that you don’t hear everyone rustling around you and I could hear the blood rushing in my ears. I clicked NEXT on question 75 and my test turned off. I was both relieved and terrified. Hoping that I fell into the group of students from my school, who have all so far passed their exam at 75. Not sure when I’ll find out, but I’m going to keep checking the board of nursing website everyday until I do.

In celebration of at least being done (so far) I came home and had a second breakfast and made chocolate molten lava cakes adapted from the Neeley’s. Take a look. I’m making enchiladas right now so those will be up tomorrow. Hopefully with another CBR5 review since I can read for pleasure again!!
