Running! Reading! Vacation!

Did you miss me?

Did you miss me?

Hey guys! I just got back from VACATION! YES. I finally went on one. I haven’t been on a legit vacation in what feels like forever. So it was definitely worth it. I’ll have more updates soon but I’ll just give you a quick recap of the past few…weeks.

We’ve almost finished painting the downstairs. We just need to do a door or two, some trim, and the cut in part of the ceiling in our stairway. That sumbitch is tall, and we weren’t into effing around with it. So more than likely we’re going to hire someone or at least rent some scaffolding so we don’t have to worry about um, not dying, on the ladder. But it’s amazing how everything seems so important until you spend 3 weekends in a row working on it and then you’re burned out for a while. I’m completely content with living in a halfway painted house. No joke.

My training for Iron Horse has been abysmal. With the move, switching from nights to days, painting, and then working OT/having classes, I have not made training the priority that I should have. So I wanted to stay active on vacation, and we went to the fitness center several times over the week, and then made sure that we spent a good amount of time walking through the cities we were visiting. I tracked it all on my fitbit and we basically walked at least 5 miles every day. However, I was too lazy to get up early and do these nice, scenic runs that I kept talking about, so I did the treadmill and it was AWFUL. We came home yesterday and I realized that I needed to get my butt in serious gear if I wanted to finish this race. So – I ran 5 miles today!

Should I be running further than 5 miles on my “long runs” at this point? Yes. Am I freaking out about making the 7 mile cut off of the race? Yes. Did I maintain a sub 14 pace which is the cutoff of the race? YES. Did you hear me?? Even with my limited walk breaks, I kept myself above the minimum cut off. I know it’s not much, but I really needed today to go well to prove to myself that hopefully I can scrape by with this limited training over the next month. Oh, the race is a month away? Shut up. I’m freaking out but I’m trying.

I read three books on vacation so I’ll have reviews up pretty soon. Probably all in one day to get it over with. So watch out for that. However, with my lack of motivation and general laziness, I still managed to put myself 15 books behind schedule. I’m pretty sure I won’t be completing Cannonball Read this year, but that’s okay. I’m doing much better than I did the last time I tried to complete it.

How have you been? Did you take a vacation this year? Are you training for any races this fall?

xoxo

Yay! You are back! I can’t wait to read all about your vacation. Where did you? The suspense is killing me! 🙂 Great job on the 5 miles. I am always up for a good book so I can’t wait to hear what you read too!
